Details for Orkney Sailing Club

We have all heard of the Orkney and Shetland Islands in Scotland and maybe some of you think there is not much there, well how wrong could you be. Let's visit the Port of Kirkwall where you will find the Orkney Sailing club and all are truly welcome, you may just be visiting doing the tourist thing, you may be passing through the area aboard your boat/yacht on your way to visit the Shetlands Islands or even Norway, but don't just sail past, there is plenty to do and see in this truly beautiful part of the world.

The Sailing club has its headquarters in a fabulous old building known as the Girnel and this building dates back to the 1600's when it was originally the building where the grain was stored until it was shipped to the Scottish mainland and sold. The Club managed to raise the money to buy the building in the 1970's and anyone is welcome to avail themselves of the toilet and shower facilities and after a freshen up, if the bar is open pop in and have a chat with the very friendly locals and boat enthusiast alike. The bar is open at weekends and on sailing nights.

The club takes part in many races and regattas throughout the year, look up their itinerary. If you wish to learn the art of handling a boat, you could not be in a better place with many an experienced hand to show you the ropes, so to speak.

Moorings for yachts are available so make the Orkney Sailing Club your next port of call.
