Known to many as the Border towns, Dumfries and Galloway are neighbours to Cumbria in England, and East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire in Scotland.

Dumfries and Galloway are home to many famous names and places, Gretna Green for example where in days gone by, young couples would elope to and be married against the wishes of their families, now of course weddings still take place there but in happier circumstances. 

Rabbi Burns, famous worldwide, his home is open to one and all to come and see where some of the most well- known words were composed, the Roberts Burn Centre shows many of his manuscripts and personal possessions and after this, follow in his footsteps and have a drink in the The Globe which was his local, or "Howff" as it is called in Scotland. If you feel in a poetic mood, then feel free to sit in his chair and recite some of Burns poetry, failure to do so will result in you buying the customers a drink, so have your wallet ready.  Another place of beauty connected with Burns is Ellisland Farm, you can enjoy a guided tour of all the afore mentioned places.

Dumfries and Galloway has two nature reserves which are classed as sites of specific scientific interest due to the fact that these areas are home to some of the rarest wildlife like Red squirrels, Wild Geese, Rutting Stags and much much more.  Watch the Ospreys nest in the summer via a live camera link, for bird watchers and nature lovers a like, this area is paradise.
