The Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park was Scotlands first National Park to be created back in 2002 to encourage the population to enjoy all the wonders that nature has to offer. Encompassing many towns and villages, the Trossach Mountains and several lochs including the famous Loch Lomond, the park covers a vast area and includes a diverse mix of landscapes from high rocky mountains, spectacular lochs and lush green lowlands.

Many visitors come from all over the world to take up the array of outdoor pursuits which are available. For the more active there is mountain biking, hill running, and a wide choice of water sports to be enjoyed along the rivers and on the lochs. Golf is very popular and there are some extremely fine courses to be found in the area. This National Park has a total of 57 conservation sites within its boundaries, which are managed by the National Park Authority. The park attracts thousands of visitors every year. The stunning countryside and breathtaking views attract recreational walkers, cyclists and bird watchers to the many nature walks and pathways throughout the park. The West Highland Way is a challenging and well trodden long distance walk that takes in some of the most beautiful scenery and villages along the way. There is always an abundance of wildlife to be seen, whatever the season or weather and there are populations of deer, badgers and squirrels within the woodlands and glens to fascinate visitors. Many species of wild birds, including spectacular birds of prey can also be found amongst the heather and wooded hillsides, with the largest species of the grouse family in the world, the capercaillie, being resident in the Scottish highlands. A small number of the lochs are fed by sea water and are populated by seals and porpoises.
